Mannington Recognized by Department of Energy
Friday, April 09, 2010
Salem,NJ, April 9, 2010--The U.S. Department of Energy has recognized Mannington Mills as one of fewer than fifty Save Energy Now Leader companies in the country.
With an ambitious goal to improve energy efficiency by 25% over the next ten years, Mannington is progressing with ongoing, rigorous energy management efforts to increase the energy efficiency of all of its operations, and so also reduce related carbon emissions.
"By taking this pledge to reduce your industrial energy intensity by 25 percent over ten years, Mannington Mills has established itself among the vanguard of forward-thinking American companies as a leader in industrial energy efficiency," said U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu in a letter to Mannington executives. "Your commitment provides an inspiring example of how the country can tackle some of its most challenging energy and environmental issues, while continuing to boost our economic competitiveness."
The industrial sector plays a major role in the health of the nation's economy and environment. Manufacturing contributes more to the U.S. economy than any other sector and employs 14 million workers – but also uses nearly one-third of all energy consumed in our country. Boosting industrial energy efficiency is a means to significantly reduce future carbon emissions in the United States.
“For years we have been saying that actions speak,” said Dave Kitts, Mannington’s Vice President –Environment. “At Mannington, we are expanding our standing efforts to reduce energy used compared to product manufactured, to include this partnership with the Department of Energy. Energy is a critical resource for making our products; manufacturers must be willing to make smart leadership choices that will benefit our shared planet, and our shared future.”
Congrats to Mannington Mills on their achievement from your friends at FlooringMarket!
