The Penny Project

This project is really MINT. When you need adhesive to install 500,000 pennies on the floor of a new restaurant who do you call? Us of course!

We supplied Laticrete 300 epoxy adhesive for the installation of the pennies at the new Lincoln Restaurant in Washington, DC.

Latapoxy 300 Adhesive is a chemical resistant, epoxy adhesive that will bond to most sound, clean surfaces. Latapoxy 300 Adhesive can be used in wet or dry applications, inside or outside.

We had the pleasure of working with the great artists at O'Neill Studios on this project. They are based in Kensington, MD. Check out their website to see some awesome work.

Konecto Install Tips from Flooring Market

Tools needed:

Straight Edge
Square
Utility Knife
Linoleum Hand Roller
100 pound roller

Sub Floor Prep:

Must be Sound, Solid, and have little Flexibility
Water not an issue…Konecto is water proof Fill large cracks (1/4” or larger) with high quality cementitous patch
Do not go over carpet or soft cushioned Vinyl.

Installation:

Start in left corner of longest wall
Position 1st plank with under lip facing out.
Measure wall to make sure that last plank is longer than 12 inches
Stagger first three courses so that end joints do not line up.
Always place cut end of joint next to wall.
Never place plank with cut end in the middle of a course.
Use hand roller to reinforce bond of joints as you join the planks
Finish job with 100 pound roller

Tips:

If end joints appear to be curled when removed from carton simply reverse roll them and place onto lower lip of adjoining plank and roll with hand roller
If some Konecto adhesive seems less tacky, warm with heat gun and install.
Job site must be at least 65 degrees or warmer.
Material should never sit in vehicle over night during the winter time without properly acclimating material before install, preferably 48 hours.

Where Can I Use Laminate?

Laminate can be used in any room of the house, below, on or above grade level. Laminate floors do have some sensitivity to excessive moisture, so if you plan on using laminate in a bathroom, you’ll need to take special precautions.

Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Rating [on a scale of 1 to 5; 1 is easiest]
2: Requires more patience than skill

Easy installation is one of laminate floorings prime attributes. Its an "interlocking floating" floor, which means the floor tiles or planks attach to each other rather than to the subfloor. They attach via a tongue-and-groove, glueless system that makes it possible to install a laminate floor over virtually any existing floor (except high-pile carpet.) While a floating floor eliminates the need to prep a subfloor, it does require the use of an underlayment. Underlayments provide protection against warping from moisture beneath, particularly if youre installing the floor over concrete. Underlayments also reduce or eliminate "hollow" sounds generated from traffic on the floor.

Keep in Mind:

Some laminate floors come with underlayment attached to the floor. However a "rolled out" underlayment provides greater sound absorption and moisture protection than laminate floors with attached underlayments.

For extra moisture protection in bathrooms and near kitchen sinks, youll need to seal around the perimeter of the floor with caulk or sealant. Bathroom installations should also use a glued seam (not floating) installation method to prevent water from seeping between the seams.
