Somerset offers two types of flooring construction: solid and engineered.

Somerset solid hardwood flooring is a single piece of solid wood that is crafted into a strip or plank flooring through an advanced milling and finishing process.

Somersets engineered hardwood flooring has a solid top layer, or face, supported by six additional layers that are cross-grained and laminated together to form a 1/2" thick piece of plank flooring. This cross graining provides greater dimensional stability, minimizing the expansion and contraction that natural wood exhibits when exposed to varying moisture levels and temperatures.

Both are excellent choices to install on or above grade (ground level),depending on the type of subfloor you have. If you choose to put hardwood flooring below grade, in a basement, for example, you will need to install engineered flooring.

The main considerations for choosing solid or engineered flooring have to do with where and how the flooring will be installed.

Thickness: 3/4" Installation: Nail or staple on or above grade (ground level) only over wood subfloors. (solid boards, plywood, or OSB

Thickness: 1/2", 7-ply, 3mm thick sliced face Installation: Glue, staple, or nail down on, above or below grade (ground level) over wood, vinyl and even concrete subfloors (including basements). Note:Because the top layer of Somersets engineered flooring is "sliced," you get the same appearance of a solid wood floor with the dimensional stability of engineered, cross-layered construction.

Many people believe that solid flooring is a better value because its 3/4"thick. Keep in mind, however, that the usable part of the flooring is only that wood that is above the tongue and groove. Somersets engineered flooring features a 3mm thick solid top layer that can be professionally sanded and refinished. Either is an excellent, natural choice that will add to the value of your home and will give you a lifetime of enjoyment.

LATICRETE Hydro Barrier is a thin, load bearing, self curing liquid rubber polymer which can be easily applied to form a flexible seamless waterproof anti-fracture membrane. LATICRETE Hydro Barrier can be used on interior and exterior, horizontal or vertical surfaces and is approved by IAPMO for use as shower pan liner.

In 2007, LATICRETE launched what became the most advanced waterproofing membrane that the industry has ever seen. In keeping with their goal to be the premier waterproofing supplier in the market Laticrete introduced their newest waterproofing membrane, LATICRETE Hydro Barrier. I have a pre-finished engineered Santos Mahogany hardwood floor. It is a floating installation over Quiet Walk underlayment. Many homeowners don’t realize that an engineered hardwood floor is actually a better product than a solid hardwood for many applications. Because engineered floors are created in layers of wood that alternate direction they are more dimensionally stable than a solid wood floor.

Engineered hardwood flooring is considered more environmentally friendly than a solid wood floor because so much less wood from a slow growth tree is used.

Work solution onto surface.
Wipe up liquid frequently, rinsing the sponge or mop in the cleaning solution. It is not necessary to rinse surface after cleaning unless recoating with finish.
For hard to clean areas, allow solution to stand for four to five minutes and, if necessary, carefully loosen dirt with a stiff brush.

The type and frequency of traffic on your floor will determine the frequency of maintenance needed. The type of Konecto and even the color will also have some bearing on how much care may be necessary. For example, solid color floors will visually show scuffs, scratches, dirt, and general wear to a greater degree than multi-colored Konecto. White or light colors will visually show staining to a greater degree than darker colors. For this reason, solid colored and white Konecto floors should receive special attention in regard to preventative maintenance and amount of care provided.   1.  In order to prevent indentations and scratches, provide glass, plastic or other non-staining cups with flat under surfaces not less than 2" in width or the legs of heavy furniture or appliances.  Equip swiveled-type office chairs and other rolling furniture with broad surface non-staining casters at least 2" in diameter.  Remove small diameter buttons from the legs of straight chairs and replace with metal glides that have bearing surfaces not less than 1".

  2.  Protect your Konecto against burns.  Burns from the glowing end of a cigarette, matches, or other extremely hot items can damage Konecto floors.

  3.  Do not flood floor or subject to frequent standing water. Konecto will not be affected by the moisture but other problems associated with excessive moisture can affect the job site and should be addressed.  Konecto plank should not be used as a Moisture Reduction System.

  4.  Protect your floor from tracked-in-dirt and grit particles by using mats at all outside entrances.  Take time to remove any imbedded grit particles from shoe soles before entering the room.  Avoid the use of rubber-backed mats, as certain rubber compounds can permanently stain vinyl.  Avoid tracking in tar or asphalt from driveways, as this can also discolor vinyl. Avoid high heels on your Konecto, they can cause permanent damage. Do not use vinegar, one step-cleaner/polishes or oil soaps on Konecto products.

  Konecto floors require daily maintenance just like any other quality floor you would install in your home.  Always be sure to have mats at entryways to catch any dirt and debris that could potentially scratch your vinyl floors.  Also, routine sweeping and mopping is required to keep your flooring looking new from year to year.

Floor Prep: Sweep or vacuum thoroughly.

Application: Shake well. Mist Konecto Scratch Remover over the affected area and allow to dwell for 1 minute. Do not exceed treating one square foot at a time, or smaller. With a clean cloth, rub in the direction of the grain until the scratches are completely removed. There should be no Scratch Remover left over on the floor. Do not walk on surface while floor is wet.
